Totally not car related but some Oppos are gun lovers.

Recently acquired an early Colt model 1911 45 caliber pistol. This is the model produced from 1911 to 1924. After that it was called the 1911A1. Not the most accurate pistol made, but unique and getting rare. Cost? $45 dollars. Don't know what the market prices are now, but seemed like a good deal to me. Top pic is similar to mine.

That's what I paid. It was a friend who sold it to me cause he knew I loved it.

I love the 1911, as a side note, I'm actually related to the man responsible for it, John Browning.

Wait, $45?!? NP!

Hell, you are likely going to spend more than that for enough ammo to supply a good day at the range.

The browning store in Ogden is owned by a video production company that I work with now, but its still fun to go in and see the old workshop.

Already shot it. A little rust in the barrel but shoots fine.

Wow, nice buy. I'm not a 1911 guy when it comes to shooting, but I would love to add one to the collection... especially for 45 bucks lol.

Nice. I have a feeling he had no idea what he had.

While I'm no 1911 affectionado, if it is in decent shape, it's worth a lot.

I love shooting a 1911. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot. There's just something about it.

Also: Nice price!

Last I checked original 1911s were going for about $1800, so I'd say super nice price on this one. Although I haven't really checked in the last year or so since my father picked up his glock.

Yeah... there's an older guy battling cancer... he has a Vietnam amnestied Russian AK he took home... last time I checked, about 5-6 years ago, it was worth around 42k. Wish he'd give me that...

Not sure how you interpreted that, but I'm sure it wasn't what I meant lol.

I'm not a gun enthusiast by any means, nor even very knowledgeable, but I've fired a few of my friend's guns. He has some high end/rare H&K's, some other German and American stuff I forget. But the nicest handgun I ever fired was his dad's Ed Brown 1911. It literally felt like an extension of my hand that I could just point and hit the target. But I'm sure it cost a hell of a lot more than $45... 2nd nicest gun I ever fired was also a 1911 of some sort. I'd like to get a 1911 some day.

Just joking with you. I'm pretty sure what you meant. Customized 45's can be really accurate. I will leave this one alone because it is original. I have other guns I can shoot if I want accuracy.

He is getting older and is starting to thin out his collection. He knew I loved it, so he sold it to me for what he paid for it ??? years ago. Plus, he threw in a shitload of custom loaded ammo. Friends, you know.

My understanding is that the 1911 was actually a pretty accurate sidearm, even the early wwI models. It got a bad rap from soldiers over the years (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) because instead of purchasing and replacing them with new issues, they simply handed the same weapons through generations of soldiers. This resulted in some being issued weapons that had fired hundreds of thousands of rounds. The poor accuracy was more a result of worn barrels than an inherently inaccurate design.

Either way, still one of my favorite weapons. It's a very simple design for an automatic and you can't/don't want to argue with .45 cal.

Yeah, have not distance shot it yet. That's coming. Pretty much going to be a weekend shooter and home defense piece. Why shoot more that one or two times at the dick that comes through the window?

Yeah it's because he is a friend. Otherwise that gun is ready to explode in your face or doesn't work at all.

I love my 1911. I paid $1300 for mine...

Kinja'd!!!

It's really accurate (better be for the price) and packs a good punch. For me a 9mm just doesn't have enough kick to feel like it is doing anything.

The revolver was a hand me down, a great great grandfather was issued it. Baltimore City Cop back in the 30's. The weapon is a hogleg, seriously.
